Episode 05: Pasquale Lazzeri (Drapers)

After collaborating with renowned wool mills such as “Loro Piana”, “Thomas”, and “Carlo Barbera” in the creation and promotion of fine fabrics and textiles, in 1956 in Bologna, the Lolli family founded Drapers.
Drapers is a company that belongs to Vitale Barberis Canonico—the largest wool mill in the world—and is dedicated to promoting and distributing its swatches of exceptional fabrics, made from noble fibers and distinguished by original colors, to tailors and manufacturers around the globe.
Pasquale Lazzeri, a salesman for over 40 years, teaches that one is born a “salesman”, but one can also become one only through great dedication, love, and passion.
For him, the “salesman” presents the canvases of a painter who, on his canvas, has chosen to interpret reality using specific strokes and specific colors that the client will then select according to personal taste. But, behind every interpretation lies extensive study and, in this particular case, a process of observation and careful research that looks in two directions: toward market demand, and toward the needs of the tailors who will touch those fabrics and then work them with scissors and chalk.
In short, Pasquale’s is a synergistic job that goes beyond sales and whose partners—before reaching the client—are the market, skilled designers, and master tailors.
Pasquale, with his suitcase full of assorted bunches, has traveled from Puglia to Lombardy, from Europe to overseas, and while keeping in his heart the flair, colors, and style of outerwear typical of his native Puglia, he has learned to read the signs and adapt, thus responding to the needs of diverse realities.
He has traveled, making the world his university, also because the small village workshop where young tailors once trained today almost no longer exists.
Nevertheless, he continues to regard Italian tailoring as an excellence in the world and, together with his company, never stops believing in a renewed interest among young people in tailoring, promoting and supporting training schools in the sector.
All of this rests on a “condicio sine qua non”: that one understands the difference between the artisan who crafts each garment individually, with refinement and attention to the client’s anatomy, and the tailor who, through technical steps and operations, refines it.
“Talking about craftsmanship and tailoring is important—and it’s never enough!” – and Pasquale awaits you to do just that, over a pasticciotto and a Leccese coffee with ice and almond milk!
Mani Nobili is an original series hosted by Mesciu Gigi that invites viewers into conversations with artisans of the highest order, craftsmen dedicated entirely to their craft. This series is an invitation to enter the sacred spaces of Italian craftsmanship where human led design, guided by tradition, functionality, and intention give form to beauty.
Through the eyes of our President, Nicolas Segura, and the voice of our General Manager of Italy, Luca Giusto, we traverse the storied region of Apulia to meet the master artisans whose work sustains the soul of a true Made in Italy. From tailoring to sculpture, from ceramics to woodwork, each episode offers a glimpse into a world where technique is inherited and iterated upon, tradition is honored and enriched, and every gesture speaks of devotion and purpose.
This series is more than a chronicle of fine workmanship; it is a celebration of vocation, of lives lived in pursuit of excellence, of heritage made tangible, of the subtle but profound harmony between mind, body, and soul that elevates an object by uniting it to a rich tapestry of craft dating back millennia.
As alluded to previously, this inaugural season is dedicated to the artisans of the region of Apulia. Each month, we dedicate ourselves to one artisan. Monthly on the fifteenth, we unveil a new chapter in their story on our YouTube channel.
We invite you to walk beside us in this ongoing journey, a journey not only into craft, but into the heart of what it means to create with purpose.
We invite you to complete this form if you would like to receive these updates and more benefits.
